Guaifenesin is a drug that reduces the thickness and stickiness of mucus. It is used for
short-term relief of dry, nonproductive cough and mucus in
the breathing passages. Guaifenesin is available in prescription products, nonprescription
products alone, and in combination with other nonprescription drugs, to treat symptoms of allergy, colds,
and upper respiratory infections.
